President from 1829 to 1837.
Both North Carolina and South Carolina claim he was born in there state. That is why there are two marked birth sites, one in each state
He and his brother fought during the American Revolution, both were in prison and were sick with smallpox. His brother died and he also got really sick after they were released from prison.
He was in the United Army and also was in Congress and Senate
He participated in the Creek War in 1813, and later in the Battle of New Orleans in 1815 (part of War of 1812). The victory in New Orleans made him very famous.
He signed the Indian Removal act, which forcibly removed most members of the major tribes of the Southeast to Indian Territory; these removals were subsequently known as the Trail of Tears.
He signed friendly treaty with the United Kingdom and France
He officially recognized Texas Republic.
He has been a very popular president, because he was considered an advocate of comon man and democracy. His big negative was the Indian Removal from the South East.
